Singapore's Grading Systems, Decoded

Every stage of Singapore's education system uses a different scoring method. Here's the landscape — and which calculator you need at each stage.

Primary (PSLE): Since 2021, PSLE uses Achievement Levels (AL1–AL8) instead of T-scores. Each subject gets an AL band. The total PSLE score (best = 4, worst = 32) determines secondary school placement.

Secondary (O-Level): O-Level results are converted to L1R5 (one language + five relevant subjects) for JC admission or L1R4 for Polytechnic admission. Lower is better.

Pre-University (A-Level / IB): A-Level grades convert to rank points (max 90) for local university admission. IB Diploma is scored out of 45 and converted to equivalent rank points.

University: NUS and NTU use a 5.0 GPA scale. SMU uses 4.3 with plus/minus grades. Polytechnics use 4.0. Honours classification depends on cumulative GPA thresholds.
